Christine Hollinden been a member of AM&AA since 2016. She is the leader of the Houston Chapter.
How long have you been a member of AM&AA and what leadership roles, if any, have you held throughout that time?
I’ve been a member of AM&AA since 2016, and a supporter since 2010. Eventually, I became a member of the Houston Chapter and played an integral role in its relaunch in 2022. As Houston Chapter Leader, I have directed focus on sustainability through innovative programming and membership outreach. I am also a member of the National Membership Committee, which is dedicated to creating value for members.
What drives your commitment to your craft and industry?
My experience and interest in the industry began after graduate school when working in a Texas A&M program, INVENT (The Institute for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship). When reviewing emerging tech developed within the Texas A&M University System, I determined the visibility and appropriate moves forward. I then leveraged that experience as a Senior Consultant in the consulting department of Grant Thornton where I focused on debt and equity financing. Now in working with private equity, investment bankers, accounting, consulting, and other professional service firms, I draw upon that knowledge to create and implement growth strategies.
As a continuous learner, I push myself to expand my industry knowledge and have earned the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), Certified Value Growth Advisor (CVGA), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), and Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA) designations. I have also challenged Houston Chapter members to achieve their CM&AA certification.
I am passionate about supporting the often-overlooked middle market that provides growth and stability in our economy. Middle-market companies account for some 30-40% of the private-sector GDP, as well as employing approximately 48 million people. The middle market plays a critical role in our country’s ability to weather economic downturns. It’s more than just the economic impact that drives my passion for the middle market M&A world.
I have honed my skills and support this industry because the companies we all work with are some of the most innovative and creative in the world, with an unprecedented amount of talent within their employment base.
What are some insights or at least one piece of advice you wish you would have known when you first started in the industry?
Use a healthy dose of common sense. If something doesn’t sound right, it probably isn’t.
What is top of mind for you in your business right now? (topic, industry trend, or idea)
I am currently focused on building out my team to better support our clients now and in the future.
There are more women entering the industry. This will shift the overall mindset through new insights, intuition, and innovative solutions.
How has being a member of a trade association resulted in business growth for you? (Provide a specific example in the form of a story)
I met Statesman Business Advisors through the AM&AA. My firm had the pleasure of working with them on rebranding, content, collateral, strategy, and marketing. I also met Ken Sanginario, founder and CEO of Corporate Value Metrics and started teaching in their Certified Value Growth Advisor (CVGA) program and our firm has supported Ken with digital marketing, the program, and software for years.
What legacy industry impact would you most desire to be known for? (Career position, accolade, event, etc.)
I want to be known for going above and beyond my role to give back to those who need the support and motivation within the industry.
